Yayoi Kusama Art Exhibit
On Friday March 23rd we attended the much anticipated Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors at the AGO, something Tara has been waiting over 2 years to see! The tickets were really hard to get and I am so grateful we managed to snag some!
When we got there;
We left school after 3rd period and drove down just in time to get there 15 mins before our 3:00 pm viewing. After getting our tickets we walked straight to a giant poster of Yayoi Kusama where the line started. We only had to wait in line for roughly 15 or 20 mins and took an elevator up into the first section of the exhibit.
1. Phalli's Field
The first room we entered was Phalli's Field. It was bright with wight walls and had white sculptures with red polka dots. I really liked how bright and clean it was.
2. Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity
This was the second we entered was completely black with dim light yellow lights. I really liked this one as I felt I was the only one in there.
3. Love Transformed into Dots
This and the room surrounding it was completely pink! Luckily, the guide let the four of us in, so we were in there alone was a family. I really liked how fun this room was and especially the colour of it!
4. Love Forever
This was a room you could only peer into and kept changing colours. There was two windows you could look into and it was fun seeing my mom and I all around me!
Now for this one we weren't allowed to take pictures in but I think that's why its my favourite one. Yellow and black pumpkins of different sizes filled the floor and it definitely the room I wish I will never forget.
6. The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away
This was the room you could see in the Adele music video and was definitely one of my favorites. I liked seeing all the different colours and lights surrounding me!
Before we entered the room there was a lot of Yayoi's colourful sculptures and paintings being displayed. I really liked her paintings and patterns she incorporated into them. This final room was also really cool because it got the viewers involved. The room was completely blank or must have been when the exhibit started, and each pair of two got a strip of stickers to decorate and put anywhere inside the room. It was pretty cool!
This was definitely one of my favourite exhibits that left me feeling inspired and happy! Can't wait to go to her museum in Tokyo! Haha
One of my favourite quotes of her:
"I feel how truly wonderful life is, and I tremble with undying fascination for the world of art, the only place that gives me hope and makes life worthwhile. And no matter how I may suffer for my art, I will have no regrets. This is the way I have lived my life, and it is the way I shall go on living."
